Our Impact

AIFO India works both directly and in partnership with value-aligned partners across 14 states in India: Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Tamilnadu, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram.

We are on a dual mission: to eradicate leprosy in India and to support persons with disabilities in our country.

Our work involves rebuilding communities affected by leprosy through educational, leadership and healthcare initiatives focused on the needs of men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds. We also supervise monitoring and training programmes for the disabled and assist in identifying and addressing healthcare needs. Our overarching goal is not only to improve the lives of the people we help, but to enable them to become welcomed, respected members of the communities in which they live.

  • India has the highest number of new leprosy cases in the world!
  • Early signs of leprosy are clearly visible – If detected early, leprosy can be treated completely
  • Leprosy mostly starts as a small patch on the skin, followed by change in sensation on that patch
  • Disabilities and deformities set in - due to delay in seeking or getting medical treatment
  • Leprosy medication is available free of cost at Government Health Centres and a few NGO Hospitals, which are equipped to provide quality leprosy services
